DAV Pakhowal Organised Sally Ride Earth KAM Project

DAV Public School, Pakhowal Road, Ludhiana in association with Space Technology & Education Pvt. Ltd. plated a unique opportunity for students to control a digital camera on board the INTERNATIONAL SPACE STATION (ISS) through the Sally Ride Earth KAM Project for classes VI-VIII. It was a golden chance for the students to participate in a space mission to photograph locations on Earth. The images were clicked through satellites. The Principal Dr. Satwant Kaur Bhullar stated that these images can be used as a teaching aid by the teachers in areas like physics, geography, Earth Science etc. Through these workshops the students would learn how to plan a target of interest based on orbits of the ISS. The activity has been adopted to help the participants study geographical features, environmental problems, weather and climate sciences, meteorological changes, and other studies such as consequences of natural phenomena and disasters like deforestation, glacier recession and coastline changes in a simpler and effective manner. The Space Club coordinator Ms. Ritu Nohria shared that in this process they will gain exposure to tools such as Google Earth and learnt about orbital mechanics and mapping. The students really felt fascinated to receive photos specially clicked by ISS for them.
Mr. Aman Mittal, Business Head Space- Punjab shared that ISS (The International Space Station) is the first human settlement in space, built and sponsored by 17 Nations. Sally Ride Earth KAM is a NASA sponsored education programme that enables students to photograph and examine Earth from the unique perspective of space.
Dr. Satwant Kaur Bhullar thanked the space team for giving such an informative platform to the school students, she also expressed her elation to watch the students progressing with time. It was indeed a privilege for the school to be a part of this project.
