ISA ACTIVITY 7 DISASTER MANAGEMENT  

ACTIVITY 1: INFORMATION ABOUT   NATURAL DISASTER

Students were acquainted with the various natural disasters which can be faced around the world .Their previous knowledge was linked with the new information. Different types of Disasters like Earthquakes, Floods, Landslides, Avalanches, Cyclones, and Tsunamis were shared with the students.

LEARNING OUTCOME:

1. The students were able to identify various natural disasters around the globe.
2. The students were able to understand the reasons behind the disasters.
3. The students were able to know about the structure and dynamics of the Earth, its layers, tectonic plates, continental drift and faults.

ACTIVITY 2: INFORMATION ABOUT THE VARIOUS PREVENTIVE MEASURES AND STRATEGIES THROUGH PPTS

calamity Management PowerPoint Presentation was   shown to the students of VI and IX to help them identify the threats precautions needs to be taken to minimize the effects of natural disasters. Environmental emergencies, complex emergencies and   pandemic emergencies were discussed through PPT.  It   also focused   on creating plans to decrease the effect of disasters.

LEARNING OUTCOME:
1. The students were able to learn about the precautions to be taken to prevent NDS.
2. The students were able to learn about various precautions to be taken to handle situations during NDS.

ACTIVITY 3: NEWS ABOUT NATURAL DISASTERS

 Latest news, top stories, blogs and   images about the natural disasters around the globe were shared with the students of classes V and VI. Students participated actively while sharing their knowledge about the bush in Australia and flood affected areas in the other part of the globe.

LEARNING OUTCOME:

1.The students were able to know about the current happenings related to NDS.

2.The students were able to understand the deteriorating condition of the planet.

3.The students were able to develop empathy the ND victims..

ACTIVITY 4: MOCK DRILL TO FIGHT ODDITIES

Awareness cum mock drill was conducted in collaboration with Ludhiana Fire station .Students received firsthand knowledge in handling the fire equipment. The resource person Mr. Maninder Singh acquainted the students with various forms of fire disasters .An another interactive and informatory session was conducted on disaster management. Around 200 NCC cadets along with other students of the school attended the session. NCC cadets actively participated in the mock drills under the supervision of Hawaldar Iqbal Singh.

LEARNING OUTCOME:
1. The students were able to know about the various ways to flight the oddities during NDS.
2. The students attained Knowledge to handle the fire equipments.

ACTIVITY 5: MODELS ON NATURAL CALAMITIES

Students of class VII displayed their artistic skills through the model representation of the natural disasters. Students were divided into groups   to complete this activity.  Each group was assigned to work on one type of natural disaster (volcano, flood, drought, earthquake, tornado, hurricane, tsunami etc)

LEARNING OUTCOME:
1. The students were able to identify the various causes & phenomenon of natural disasters.
2. The students were able to thoroughly understand the chemical reactions behind certain disasters..
3. The students were able to develop their own solutions for rescue operations.

ACTIVITY 6: POSTER MAKING COMPETITION

A poster making competition was organized for the students of class V. The students drafted informative and convincing posters to spread awareness about global Natural Disasters and their management.

LEARNING OUTCOME:
1.
The students were able to express their opinion & concern related to environment through poster making.
2. The students were able to spread awareness about various natural disasters and their management.

ACTIVITY 7: WRITING APPEAL NOTICE

The best notices were displayed on the bulletin boards of the classes .The students of class VI learnt to draft appeal notice to spread information about the Natural Disasters and appealing for public help in the form of charity, blood Donation etc.

LEARNING OUTCOME:
1. The students were able to impact information through public notices.
2. The students were able to learn the values of sympathy & empathy towards ND victims.

ACTIVITY 8: QUIZ CONTEST

A quiz contest was organized for   the students of  classes IX and X to assess their  knowledge about the various natural disasters , preventive measures and  current outbreaks of  disasters . The students were shortlisted class wise to participate in the Interclass final Quiz Competition ensuring maximum participation.

LEARNING OUTCOME:
1. The students were able to recall their previous & attained information on ND globally.
2. The students were able to think pair and share information.

MOVIE SHOW
An Informative Movie ‘Tidal Wave’ was shown to the students to add to their knowledge. The film follows the stories of many characters who all got caught up in a terrible tsunami in which they were to make life-or-death decisions

LEARNING OUTCOME:
1. The students were able  to have a virtual experience of Tsunami through the movie.
2. The students were able to empathize with the situations of the characters.
3. The students were able to grab right decision, making qualities.

 Planting Trees Activity

The volunteers of the school ECO Club and Arya Yuva Samaj Unit Planted trees on important events, functions, festivals and celebration of the school. The students were encouraged to plant trees on their birthdays and other special occasions. Van Mahotsav Week was celebrated whole heartedly where students hugged trees. The school adopted the responsibility maintaining a neighbouring abandoned park. The school premises has been made plastic free Zone, zero waste Zone and plants have been installed to dispose off e-waste. All the guests to the school are given a warm reception with saplings instead of other gifts.

Challenges Faced:

The students were made aware not to repeat the Fire Control Mock Drills at home except for emergencies. It required strenuous efforts to change the habit of using plastic and replacing it with other natural substitute’s altogether.
